Judy Lloyd – Marriage Celebrant
A friend’s daughter asked if I would be interested in becoming a celebrant to marry her and her partner on their very special day. Of course I said YES as it is an honour to be asked to officiate at any wedding, so that is how I became a ‘Wedding Celebrant’!
I would love to share your special day with you and help you to create an individually designed ceremony that reflects your personality and style.
I am based in Christchurch and Lake Tarawera in the Bay of Plenty, two beautiful places to have a celebration, but I am happy to travel to anywhere in NZ for you.
Let me share your day and make it a relaxed, fun occasion for everyone!
The first step in planning your wedding
You’ve decided to get married and you require a wedding celebrant, yay! Contact me and we will arrange a coffee meeting where you can get to know me. I will guide you through to the next steps if you wish to proceed.
My role as Celebrant
My role is to write and perform your wedding ceremony with your assistance and to ensure all the paperwork is filled out correctly, so you are legally married in New Zealand. See the steps below for details on getting married in New Zealand.
How to get married in New Zealand
01.
–
Arrange a marriage licence
You have to arrange a marriage licence at least three working days before you want to get married. If you're being married by a celebrant, you'll need their name and the location and approximate date of the wedding when you apply.
You need two witnesses to come to your ceremony. They must be able to understand what's happening.
02.
–
Getting married with a celebrant
Your celebrant will ask you and your witnesses to sign the "Copy of particulars of marriage". You'll get a copy to keep.
03.
–
Get a marriage certificate
If you need to show anyone legal proof of your marriage, you can order a marriage certificate.
04.
–
Option to change your name
If you want to change your last name after you're married, you don’t have to do anything special — but some places like banks or government agencies might ask to see a copy of particulars or marriage certificate.
